Biomedical Support Specialist

Location: Calverton Office

IMS supports multiple bioinformatics initiatives from government and commercial institutions in public health and medical research applications. IMS is looking for an entry-level Biomedical Support Specialist to provide researchers with technical and help desk support in their search for biospecimens and clinical data. In this position, you will review, code, and edit clinical information related to biomedical research and provide biomedical guidance to analytic programmer staff. You will also provide technical and quality assurance guidance to national field staff in the compilation and reporting of their impact data. Tasks also include developing documentation and training materials for our web-based communication systems and ensuring compliance with Section 508 guidelines on document accessibility. Additional tasks may include attending scientific meetings and preparing minutes for distribution to participants. Please note this is not a laboratory position.


  • Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. Department of Education accredited institution in Biology or a related physical science field with at least a 2.9 GPA
  • 0-2 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with basic computer functions and Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to relay biomedical information to clients in layman terms
  • Demonstrated strong analytic and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
  • Must be able to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work within a team
  • Experience with clinical data a plus
  • Strong presentation skills preferred
