Junior Systems Administrator (Desktop Support)

Location: Calverton Office

IMS supports multiple bioinformatics initiatives from government and commercial institutions in public health and medical research applications. IMS is looking for a Junior Systems Administrator (Desktop Support) to provide hands-on technical support to over 200 tech-savvy users on a wide variety of industry standard applications. You will help with the maintenance of a Windows Server environment and the associated Windows desktop infrastructure as well as work with the systems team to solve complex and challenging technical issues. Tasks include installing and maintaining Windows-based software and operating systems, as well as supporting connectivity of devices to the network and performing routine network administration duties.


  • Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. Department of Education accredited institution in Computer Technology or related field, or Associate’s degree in the same field with equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2.9 GPA
  • 0-2 years of related professional experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows desktop and Windows Server operating systems
  • Familiarity with Linux
  • Familiarity with Microsoft System Center a plus
  • Basic understanding of programming logic; PowerShell a plus
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to relay technical information to users in layman terms
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
  • Must be able to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work within a team
  • Strong presentation skills preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Level 5 Public Trust security clearance
